Mangalore, Jan 6:
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday January 5 urged the state government to withdraw three ministers- Janardhana Reddy, Karunakara Reddy and Sriramulu from the cabinet for their involvement with illegal mining activities in the state.

Addressing media persons at the NGO Hall, G N Nagaraj, secretariat member of CPI (M) Karnataka Committee said the Andhra-based Obalapuram Mining Company has been illegally operating in the territory of the state by violating its border. Demanding a  Lokayukta investigation into the issue, he also accused he trio of resorting to goondaism in that part of the state.

Commenting on the state government-sponsored state-level month-long anti-terrorism student awareness campaign to be inaugurated in the city on January 12, he said a comprehensive material should be published on the proposed awareness campaign, which should then be presented in an all-party meeting. 'The campaign should not have any RSS or BJP agenda. It should not have an objective of targetting Islam in the guise of countering of terrorism. The programme should bring awareness against terrorists including suspected terrorists Sadhvi Prajna Singh, Pandey, LTTE and others', he stressed.

He also warned that the democratic and secularist parties will organize counter campaign if the government tries to implement any RSS agenda in the guise of the awareness programme. Terming the arrest of the editor of 'Karavali Ale' news paper as an action of communally driven government, Nagaraj asked the media to fight against such incidents. 'BJP is apprehensive about facing the forthcoming Loksabha election in the district.  It considers 'Karavali Ale' cam turn out to be a formidable hurdle in the election. This is a part of the drama being enacted to muffle the voice of the newspaper. The party will take up the issue at national level', he said.

Criticizing the Union government for using the services of America for decimaing the terrorists, he said America is under the threat of terrorism and the credit for creating the extremists certainly goes to that country. 'India should take up the issue in front of United Nations Security Council and should bring pressure on it to deal with Pakistan on the issue of terrorism. The government should have the choice of multilateralism instead of unilateral action' he opined.

B Madhava, district committee member was present at the press meet.
