Udupi: DC Asks for Re-tendering of City Bus Stand Concreting Work

Udupi, Jan 4: The concreting work taking place at the Udupi city bus stand prima facie appears to be illegal and hence it need to be stopped with immediate effect, and the municipality can go ahead with the work only after inviting fresh tenders, said deputy commissioner (DC) P Hemalata.

Nityananda Olakadu, general secretary, Nagarika Samiti, had requested the DC to stop the ongoing conreting work of the city bus stand, duly supporting his request with details and documents.

The concreting work worth Rs 50 lac has been taken up by the municipality without even publishing the tender notice, Olakadu criticized.

Speaking to the media, DC said that the ongoing work at the city bus stand will have to be stopped forthwith, before going into the pros and cons. The tender must be floated again through short-term tender. Then the work may be legally entrusted to the contractor concerned, she commented. legally said Hemalata.

The municipal officials said it would take another 15 days to go through the procedures of inviting of tenders and entrusting the work thereof to the concerned.
