Udupi, Jan 4: The academic progress review meeting of Dakshina Kannada district was held at the zilla panchayat auditorium in the city on Saturday January 3.

Speaking at the meeting, primary and secondary education minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri asked  the government schools to give importance to the improve the  quality of teaching, so that more and more students get attracted to join their schools in the coming academic year.

Though the facilities in the government schools are improving over the previous years, they particularly lag behind in providing good quality education. The quality of the government school must be better than the aided and non-aided schools in the coming days, he said.

The first week of February must be reserved to teach the academically weaker students of the district, the  pronunciation of  difficult words. 'Oduve Nanu' scheme will be implemented soon and the educational community must work for its success, he advised.

The schools must compulsorily start and end the routine with two songs out of the 'National Anthem', 'Nada Geete' and 'Vande Mataram', to evoke the patriotic feelings and discipline among the children, he advised.

Honourary teachers will be appointed very soon in the vacant posts and strict action will be taken against those who indulge in malpractices at the SSLC and pre-university examination centres, he warned.

The police department is informed to take necessary measures against the LPG Cylinder thefts in various Schools. The construction works of every school in the district must be completed on time without any delay. There is a need for 27, 000 bicycles for being distributed among the eighth standard students, he revealed.

Shivashankar, chief executive officer, zilla panchayat and Chamegowda, DDPI, were present on the occasion.
