Mangalore: ‘Classical Status of Kannada Language Must be Preserved’

Mangalore, Jan 2: A manuscript must be introduced for the pro-Kannada administration to develop and protect the classical status of Kannada language, said G R Chennabasappa, president, Kannada Sahitya Parishat, speaking at the fifth Udupi district Kannada Sahitya Sammelan, held at Nitte Educational Institution on Wednesday December 31.

Language scholars, educational scholars, and scientists, must also decide to safeguard the language. The heritage and status of Kannada itself is qualified for classical status and not the gained through the generosity of the union government, he said.

The country has suffered due to enmity between languages, territories, religions, and castes. It is necessary to develop good relations in the community and it may be possible through literature, said Chennabasappa.

Dr N Mogasale and Prema Mogasale were felicitated on the occasion.

Ambatanaya Mudrady, president, Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP), Harikrishna Punaroor, former president, KSP, A J Kodgi, president, state’s third financial commission, Prof S R Arun Kumar, Prof S Y Kulakarni, principal, Nitte engineering College, Yogesh Hegde, Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde, and Dr Gananath Ekkaru, were present on the occasion.

Dr Padmanabha Kekkunnaya co-ordinated the programme. Captain Ganesh Karnik, working president, reception committee, welcomed the gathering.
