Karkala, Jan 1: The government must give priority to identifying the defects of the administrative management, said A G Kodgi, chairman, state’s third finance commission, speaking on the second day of the Udupi district fifth Kannada Sahitya Sammelan held at Nitte Educational Institution on Wednesday December 31.

The commission report was submitted to the government in a different format and Panchayat Raj management must be protected. More power and opportunity must be provided for rural development. The proposal has been submitted to correct the deficiency of the administration, he said.

Prof Ramachandra Karkala was felicitated for his achievement in the field of literature and organization, and A Eshwarayya Udupi for art criticism while Prof Mohan Kotian was felicitated for his achievements in humorous literature. B C Rao Shivapura was recognized for his achievement in ‘Harikatha’ while Jaggu Parava, Kadtala Karkala, for ‘Bhootanritya’. Keshav Koteshwar was recognized for public service while Kalavati Dayanand was felicitated for achievements in folk songs.

The prizes were distributed to winners of the essay competition held as the part of conference. Dr N Mogasale, president, conference, and Kota Srinivas Poojary, member, Vidhan Parishat, were present on the occasion.
