MANGALORE, Dec 26: The long-awaited demand of the people for a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus to Kasargod from is getting fulfilled.

The KSRTC bus service to Kasaragod has been inaugurated here on Friday by district in-charge Minister J. Krishna Palemar at 10.15 a.m. at the KSRTC bus-stand.

Initially, the KSRTC will be operating 10 buses between the two cities on either side of the Karnataka-Kerala border. This number is likely to be increased to 25 by January-end, according to KSRTC senior divisional controller P.B. Karumbaiah.

Stops

G.T. Prabhakar Reddy, divisional traffic officer, said that the journey might last one hour and 20 minutes. Although the bus service to Kasaragod would be formally inaugurated on Friday, regular plying of buses would commence from Saturday, Mr. Karumbaiah said. These buses would stop at Talapady, Manjeshwara, Hosangadi, Uppala and Kumble, he added. Welcoming the introduction of KSRTC buses on the Mangalore-Kasaragod route, Hanumanth Kamath of the Karnataka Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike, urged that KSRTC service within the city limits be introduced at the earliest.

“Apathy of the officials is delaying the KSRTC city service,” he said.

However, Kamath said the credit for starting the inter-State bus service should go to the Kerala Government. He refused to credit the State Government for this. This move would end the monopoly of private bus-owners, he said.

Hats-off to KSRTC Senior Divisional Controller MR. P.B. Kurumbiah and Divsional Traffic Officer Mr. G.T. Prabhakar Reddy for this long awaiting arrangement. Also it would be much benefitting to many people travelling to Mangalore from Kanhnagad area, if the above officials look in to the possibility of extending the route to Kanhangad at least for some of the buses. If we carry out a study, most of the people travelling from Mangalore to kasaragod are from Kanahangador further area. We can notice this as soon as the buses arrived from Mnagalore to Kasaragod bus stand.

After alighting from the bus they have to wait for the onward KSRTC buses to go ahead to Kanhangad via Bekal Fort, which are all the time full and ladies and children striving to get in to the bus and not even place to stand in the bus. Some times they have to wait for half an hour to get a bus, when the bus comes it comes two or three together. In order to help this grievance, we request the concerned to arrange some buses to extend up to Kanhangad. Many tourists to Bekal fort also suffering to catch a bus to their destination. This route has only KSRTC (kerala) buses which are all very bad condition, not clean seats are broken or loose, which will adversely effect the image of India to the tourists from various parts of the world. We hope the new buses introduced by the Karnataka Government would help to hold the credibility of Karnataka Government and ultimately to our Nation.

Ya it's a good move by the KSRTC. Try to introduce non stop buses also in between Mangalore and KGD during rush hours, so that direct passenger can save 20 to 30 minutes time.
