Tumkur, Dec 26: Deputy commmissioner Dr C Somashekhar, who happens to be the district returningofficer for the ensuing by-election said that the newspaper reports about his having been reprimanded by the Election Commission for inefficiency were false. "The commission has asked me to send certain information. I was not taken to task as reported," he clarified.

"We have been keeping a close vigil on the activities taking place in Madhugiri constituency. A truck loaded with liquor was confiscated two days ago. We have taken complaints about the distribution of liquor and money for seeking votes very seriously. Steps are being taken against the concerned officials," he said.

Never before were so many check posts installed in the roads of Madhugiri constituency, he added, in support of his claim that he has been discharging his electoral duties affectively.
