Moodbidri, Dec 24: The symbol of woman power of the country, Mandaleshwara Rani Chennabhairadevi died over 400 years ago, but still a permanent monument has not been constructed, said Kamala Hampana, litterateur, speaking at a press conference in Moodbidri on Monday December 22.

Chennabhairadevi exported pepper to foreign countries through the sea route and balanced the economical status of the country. Apart from this, she constructed many temples and supported architecture and gifted the state with culture, said Hampana.

Her love for language, interest in social work, and efficiency are good qualities worth remembering. It is the duty of the Kannadigas to inspire the new generation with her memory, she added.

The postal department should introduce her stamps, and road circles in places like Bhatkal, Honnavar, Barkoor, Haduvalli, and Gerusoppa, should be named after her. The national highway from Bangalore to Honnavar or Bangalore to Bhatkal, must be named after her and her life achievement must be introduced in school text books, urged Hampana.

The state government must conduct various programme all over the state in her memory, she added. Dr Hampa Nagarajayya, research scholar, was present on the occasion.
