Mangalore: Gujarat Handicrafts Exhibition from Dec 20

Mangalore, Dec 19: A Gujarat handicraft ‘Mela’ will be held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Pandeshwar, from Saturday December 20 to Tuesday December 30.

The Mela is being sponsored by the development commissioner (handicrafts), ministry of textiles. Harsha, president, Dakshina Kannada District Journalists’ Association, will inaugurate the Mela on Saturday at 4 pm.

Ethnic embroideries, patchwork, leather products, textile jewellery, tie and dye products, Azark prints, Batik prints, shawls, and other crafts will be on display at the Mela. Demonstrations shall be held in selected crafts and artisans will be present in their traditional costumes, said Jackob D’Souza, investigator, development commissioner (handicrafts), in a press conference on Friday December 19.

Design’s of people’s choice will be done on order. The poor people’s handicrafts are brought into the big cities to display their talent and dedication, said B L Shoda, artisan.
