Mangalore, Dec 19: Dr Veerendra Heggade, will be felicitated at Swarajya, Moodbidri, on Sunday December 28 at 5.30 pm, said Dr Mohan Alva, president, Alvas Education Foundation, in a press conference on Friday December 19.
The programme is being organized by the Rajashri Dr Veerendra Heggade Shastabdhi Committee. Dr Heggade will be brought to the venue in a procession from Samaj Mandir, Moodbidri, at 4 pm, said Dr Alva.
The felicitation is a token of respect to Dr Heggade for 40 years of service to the society in the field of rural development and women empowerment. Over 50,000 people are expected to participate in the programme, he said.
Folk singing and classical singing will be part of the three-hour programme and three separate three food counters will be arranged for the participants, said Dr Alva.
Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa will preside over the function.
Dr V S Acharya, state home minister, Oscar Fernandes, health minister, M Veerappa Moily, president, Administrative Reforms Commission, Krishna J Palemar, district in-charge minister, and D Sadananda Gowda, member of parliament, will be the guests of honour.
Sri Vishweshwara Theerta, Pejawar Math, Udupi, Sri Balagandharnath Swamiji, Adichunchanagiri Temple, and Sri Charukeerti Swamiji, Sri Jain Math, will deliver the benedictory speeches on the occasion.
Vinay Hegde has been elected president of the district union committee and others are Harikrishna Punaroor, secretary, Suresh Ballal, treasurer, and Dr Mohan Alva, association secretary.
The various taluk committee presidents are Pradeep Kumar for Mangalore, Lakshmi Narayana Alva for Bantwal, Sitaram Rai for Puttur, Kurunji Venkataramana Gowda for Sullia, Vasant Bangera for Beltangady, Vijay Kumar for Karkala, Pramod Madhwaraj for Udupi, Appanna Hegde for Kundapur, and K Abhaychandra Jain for Moodbidri. K Amarnath Shetty is the honourary president for Moodbidri, and V V Bhat for Kasargod.
