Mangalore, Dec 19: A taluk-level badminton tournament will be held at U S Mallya Indoor Stadium, near Mangala Stadium, on Sunday January 4 at 8 am.

The tournament is being organized by Surabhi Badminton Club.

Over 120 teams from 63 schools are expected to participate in the tournament, said H Narendra Nayak, president, Surabhi Badminton Club, speaking at a press conference on Thursday December 18.

The tournament will be held in the junior and senior categories for boys and girls, separately. The junior category will be for students up to class seven and the senior category for students of classes eight, nine, and ten, he said.

The tournament will be followed by a quiz competition. The topic of the quiz will be badminton and prizes will be given to each correct answer. This will be the special attraction of the day, said Nayak.

The entry forms will have to be accompanied by a fee of Rs 25 each and can be obtained at Ganesh Bazaar, GHS Road.

A Sadanand Shetty, president, Dakshina Kannada District Badminton Association, Prof H P C Shetty, advisor, Dakshina Kannada District Badminton Association, Ashok Poovaiah, former state champion, and C E Shepherd, president, Shepherd Badminton Club, are the guests of honour for the valedictory function to be held at 6.30 pm.

Ganesh Kudva, convener, and Shivaprasad Prabhu, secretary, Surabhi Badminton Club, were present at the press conference.
