Udupi, Dec 18: Eminent litterateur and academician Prof B V Markande bagged the Kengal Hanumantayya award, for his extraordinary contributions to Kannada literature, art, education, and culture over the past many years. 

Prof Markandeya has post graduation degrees in four subjects and has also completed a course in health and hygiene. He has bagged several awards including the best lecturer award, Ranna award, Attimabbe award, Goroor literary award, Rajaratnam award, best citizen award, intellectual award, poet award, J P national award, and hall of fame award, for his significant contributions.
