Man Accused of Molesting Daughter Attempts Suicide

Panaji, Dec 12: A labourer convicted for molesting his own minor daughter tried to commit suicide by slitting throat in Goa Children's court premises on Friday December 12.

"While he was being escorted back to the jail after conviction, he got a blade from nowhere and tried to slit his throat," an eyewitness stated.

Police confirming the incident said that 44-year-old labourer from port town of Vasco, 30 kms away from here, was convicted by Goa Children's court for molesting his 15-year-old daughter.

The court will declare the quantum of sentence on December 15, police said.

The father, who was accused of molesting his daughter on July 13, 2008 night, got severely injured in the attempt to kill himself. "He was rushed to Goa Medical College and hospital and was treated there. He was out of danger," police stated.
