Ahmedabad: Six Cops Suspended for Shirking Duty

TNN

Ahmedabad, Dec 10: Six constables have been suspended over the last two days. Reason? Negligence of duty. The erring cops were taken to task by city police authorities.

While four of them were deployed for VVIP security at circuit house, the other two were working as trainees in Special Operations Group (SOG), crime branch.

"The constables, who were posted at circuit house for the last two months, were not found at their posts during a surprise checking conducted by a mobile team's police inspector," said AF Mehta, assistant commssioner of police, headquarters.

When the inspector enquired with circuit house officials, he was told that the four cops had gone to a nearby tea stall. The inspector rushed down and caught them chatting at the tea stall. "When they had been posted for VIP security at a sensitive spot like circuit house, they should not have left their duty," said a headquarters police official.

In a separate incident, two police constables posted at SOG were pulled up for not obeying a senior officer's directions. "The constables were asked by their senior to go for patrolling. However, the two not only seemed reluctant but also were brash enough to turn down the order. Both have been suspended," said a senior police official.

"In the wake of recent terror attacks on Ahmedabad and Mumbai, we have to remain extra vigilant. This is the time when all our resources and manpower need in a cohesive way. Indiscipline at such a crucial juncture will be dealt with strict punitive action," said Mehta.
