Bantwal: ‘B V Karant Natakotsav’ at Manchi from Dec 12

Bantwal, Dec 10: The B V Karant Natakotsav and symposium will be held from Friday December 12 to Sunday December 14, at the artiste’s native place Manchi, near here. It is being jointly organized by the Babukody Ranga Pratistan, Bangalore, and B V Karant Natakotsav Samiti Kukkaje–Manchi, said K Ramachandra Bhat, convener, Natakotsav Samiti. 

Addressing press persons here on Tuesday December 9, he said that Babukody Venkataramana Karant was born and brought up at Manchi and made his mark in the national and international arena. Some of his experiments are incorporated in Indian plays. His contributions should be introduced to future generations for posterity’s sake, said Bhat. The Natakotsav is being organized by the Babukody Ranga Pratistan, with this aim, he added.

Veteran agriculturist Noojibail Eshwar Bhat will inaugurate the event on Friday, and   MLA Ramanath Rai will preside over the inaugural ceremony.  Corporation Bank chief manager and limericks writer Dundiraj, and Karant’s brother Krishna Karant, will be the chief guests of the occasion.

Five plays will be staged during the Natakotsav. On Friday, it will be Kannada play ‘Neralina Kote’ by Puttur Nirataniranta troupe, Puttur, directed by I K Boluvar and ‘Nidhidveepa’ by Tumari Kinnara Mela, directed by K G Krishnamurti.  ‘Dumdum Manganna’, directed by Mounesh Vishwakarma, will be staged by students of Manchi Government Composite High School, at 7.00 pm, and ‘Gunamuka’ by Tumari Kinnara Mela, directed by B R Venkataramana Aithal, will be staged on Saturday December 13, said Bhat.

The symposium will be held on the morning of Sunday December 14. Lakshmisha Tolpady will moderate the symposium that will be held in association with Rangayana Mysore and Swedish ITI.  Noted writer Vaidehi, Mysore Sharada Vilas College principal H S Umesh, Neenasam Drama Centre Venkatraman Aithal, Rajendran of National School of Drama, New Delhi, and others will present their compositions.  A session of play songs will be held by troupes from Bangalore and Mysore, at 3.30 pm in association with Abhiruchi cultural organization, B C Road.

The valedictory ceremony will be held on Sunday evening and will be presided over by Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty.  Taluk panchayat president Chandrahas Shetty Bolantoor, and Bangalore Babukodi Ranga Pratistan managing trustee Jayaram Patil, will be the chief guests on the occasion.

The play ‘Kamsayana’ will be performed after the stage programme, by students of Udupi Savitam Koorady School, directed by Dr Sreepada Bhat. Samiti secretary N Keshav Rao, member B Chandrashekar Rao, and I K Boluvar were present at the press conference.
