Beltangady: No Water for Four Days - People Lay Siege to Laila GP

Beltangady, Dec 9:  People from Kakkyena village coming under the jurisdiction of Laila gram panchayat laid a siege to Laila gram panchayat office on Monday December 8 after panchayat failed to supply drinking water to the village.

People who laid siege to the panchayat office locked the office from outside and did not allow even the staff to enter in. Later MLA Vasant Bangera came to the spot and talked to the protestors. He even joined the protestors and expressed his displeasure about inefficient working of panchayat secretary and even taluk panchayat CEO.

Protestors complained that Kakkyena village has been denied of various basic facilities. While the connecting road is in tatters, drinking water supply in irregular. "Street lights have no switches. They have directly been connected to the wires which clearly invites danger. We have a government which does not have a protection wall either. But the panchayat has turned a deaf ear to all our pleas," said one of the villagers who led the protest.

MLA Vasant Bangera instructed the secretary to put water supply back on track and also promised to sanction one more well to the village.
