Bangalore, Dec 7: Thirty huts in Cement Hut Colony, parallel to JC Road, were gutted in an accident on Friday. No casualties were reported.
The area -- also called Muniyappa Slum -- is inhabited by ragpickers who collect plastic covers and old papers. These items were stacked in sheds on a 200x500 ft plot in front of the huts. At 3 pm, one shed caught fire. The blaze spread to the others in no time as they all had inflammable items.
It took several hours for seven fire tenders to douse the blaze. The police said the accident might have been caused accidentally.
