Mangalore, Dec 7:
The proposal to run KSRTC buses on city routes, has been given the green signal by the Regional Transport Office (RTO). KSRTC city services are likely to commence in March 2009. The RTO has issued permits for 37 buses in the city, and the KSRTC has decided to seek permits to operate 100 city buses in the near future, sources informed.

Initially, the KSRTC buses will ply on the Talapady-Suratkal, and Mangaladevi-Kunjatbail  routes, passing through Jyoti circle and Lalbaug. Of the 37 permits issued, 24 are on the  Talapady–Suratkal route and 13 on Mangaladevi–Kunjatbail route. The KSRTC buses will ply at frequencies of 10 minutes on the first route, and with 20-minute intervals on the second, informed G T Prabhakar, divisional regional transport officer.

Besides existing routes, KSRTC bus services will be introduced on the Kankanady–Kavoor and Kankanady–Moodushedde routes shortly, said sources. KSRTC has plans to set up a separate depot for its fleet of city buses once they begin services.

The new depot is proposed to be set up adjacent to the existing bus depot catering to long distance buses located on National Highway 17 (NH 17) between KPT and Kuntikan junction. The tender process is underway to construct the city bus depot at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore.  KSRTC’s city bus terminus is a few kilometres away from the depot.  KSRTC plans to make alternate parking arrangements for its city fleet till the depot is readied.

I really appricated the steps taken by the KSRTC having started the city buses in the Mangalore city. we really fed up these private operator competing one another. sometime we have to wait for half hour for the bus to go to main city. In our area there are almost 12 buses. but there is no time table. sometime they come toghether and then they drive like jet planes. no time to get in and get down.

my route buses are 9, 11,11c and 23. Also I request the authorities to introduce govt. buses from Mangalore railway juction to various places. Like towards Deralekatte, Ullal.Kankanady railway station to Bijai via Kankanady,Bendoor St. Ann's college - Mallikatte,Kadri, Nantoor,Kadri Park, Bijai Church -KSRTC,Lalbagh, to Panaboor.

There is enough place to make a mini bus terminal near the Kankanady (Mangalore) junction Railway station. Another route towards kankandy-Balmatta - jyothi -Bunts hostel, pvs. empire, lal bagh to suratkal. There are many college students using this route to go to the college.specially St.Aloysius, Law college, Sree Devi College etc. You will get enough passengers in this route. and then Kankanady station to Hampankatta state bank. This is my humble request.

Please do this as soon as possible.we really tired the present bus system. Thanks to Daijiworld for taking this message to the authorities.

FINALLY RTO HAS DONE SOMETHING SENSIBLE THIS TIME. I HOPE NH-17 ROUTE ALSO GETS SOME CHANGES AS WELL. MY HOUSE FALLS ON THE HIGHWAY ITSELF SO I KNOW HOW THOSE BUS DRIVERS ATTITUDES ARE TOWARDS THE OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROADS.THEY DO NOT CARE 4 ANY 1. ALL PRIVATE BUSSES MUST BE STOPPED AND STRICT DECIPLINERY ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN AGAINST THOSE WHO ABIDE BY THE RULES....
