Phone Threat to Bangalore from Karachi

BANGALORE, Dec 6: The Karnataka administration on Saturday went into a huddle following a call in the evening that reportedly warned of a terrorist attack on Bangalore similar to the one in Mumbai.

Highly placed sources told The Hindu that the Israeli consulate in Mumbai received a call from Karachi, warning of the attack on Sunday. The Mumbai police immediately alerted their Bangalore counterparts, and a high-level meeting in the Vidhana Soudha was attended by Minister in charge of Bangalore R. Ashok, Home and Transport Secretary Upendra Tripathy, Director-General and Inspector-General of Police R. Sri Kumar and several other officials

Sri Kumar told The Hindu that the entire State had been put on alert, and all steps had been taken to ensure public safety. Security at public buildings and vital installations has been stepped up. Security has been tightened at railway stations, bus stands and airports.
