Bangalore: 'Can You Run Country without Politicians?' - Deve Gowda

TNN

Bangalore, Dec 6: "Can you run the country without politicians?'' This is how former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda reacted to public outrage against politicians in the aftermath of terror attack in Mumbai.

Referring to the outburst against politicians, he took the media and the urbanites to task. "What nonsense is this? Why do you think only politicians are a burden? Can you run the country without politicians or without a captain or PM? Do you want autocracy and dictatorship,'' he asked here on Friday.

Defending why politicians need protection, he said: "The security is not just because of terrorists, but there are many reasons. Every state has its own problems. Hence, politicians need protection. They are not hungry for it.''

Gowda felt he had been treated unfairly with regard to security cover. "There was acid attack on my wife and my son H D Revanna's wife. Even now, we have a threat. But I don't have an NSG (National Security Guard) or SPG (Special Protection Group) or Black Cats to guard me. Even an ordinary MP from Bihar and other northern states gets Z category security, but not a former PM (referring to himself),'' he maintained.

He said at one point there was not even a security guard at his house in New Delhi and the cook used to lock the gate. "In New Delhi, I use my personal car. For my security, I only had a sub-inspector and three constables provided by the state government in Bangalore. I have never asked for security. If they want, they can take back whatever has been given,'' Gowda added.

Yes Mr Gowda, we can run the country without corrupt politicians like you & your sons. In any case the country is run by the babu's in the secretariat while corrupt politicians like you swindle people. We need honest politicians to guide & control the babus. Nobody will physically attack an honest politician. So no need to waste money and manpower on protecting corrupt politicians. Police should be used for protection of the people and the country and not for boosting the ego of politicians.

Mr. Deve Gowda has a point. We may not may not like him personally, but there is some truth in what he says. Let us be practical and accept the facts. For the success of democracy, we need political parties and politicians. Voting should be made compulsory and good candidates should be elected. The responsibility lies with the electorate. Simply blaming the politicians will not help. We are the judges. Corrupt politicians should be defeated at the polls.

Certainly honest and able politicians need protection but all citizens need more the protection. Indian politicians and all or most of them are not fit to lead and protect this diverse nation. We need a new party to lead our nation in these difficult and troubled times. We have the potential. The Congress and BJP have miserably failed to govern this nation and these politicians should not be voted for power in the coming elections. Can we do it?

Yes, we can run the country without  corrupt and useless politicians  Mr Deve Gowda. Unfortunately you are wanting in both virtues. There are  a few honest politicians who can run the government but people like you will not let them exist.
