Udupi: ‘Uchalya’ Adjudged Best Play in State-level Drama Competition

Udupi, Dec 6: The 29th state-level Kannada drama competition was held here recently. It was organized by the Rangabhoomi Kala Sangatan, in memory of Dr T M A Pai, S L Narayan Bhat, and Malpe Madhvaraj.

The ‘Rangasiri’ team from Hassan, bagged the first place for the play ‘Uchalya’ while B E L Lalitakala Sangh secured the second place for ‘Antahkarna’.

The winners received the T M A Pai memento and cash prize of Rs 12,000, whereas the runners-up were given a cash prize of Rs 7,000 sponsored by Ananda Ganiga.

Apart from this, MPM Lalitakala Sangh, Bhadravati, was awarded a cash prize of Rs 4,000, sponsored by P Vasudev Rao and Dr P Ganapati Rao, for the drama ‘Mad-dora Papa Ad-dora Bayaga’.

Mahadevu Hadapada was awarded Rs 2,000 as best director for ‘Uchalya’ while Lakshman Rao, director ‘Antahkarna’ and H A Mahendra, director, 'Mad-dora Papa Ad-dora Bayaga' secured the second and third prizes in direction, respectively.

The Rangasiri team also received the awards for best music, best actor, best lighting, best accomplishment, and best child artiste. K N Taylor, artiste, will be felicitated at the Muddanna Bayalu Ranga Mantapa , MGM College, Udupi, on Friday January 4. 'Uchalya' will be staged again on that occasion, said Kutpady Ananda Ganiga, president, Rangabhoomi, and P Vasudev Rao, chief secretary, in a press release.
