Mangalore: Policemen Looking for Illegal Bangladesh Immigrants

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Dec 4: The policemen of the District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) have commenced enquiries into the possible stay of Bangaladesh citizens in the city illegally. As a first step, they questioned 21 fishermen who are involved with fishing activities in the Bunder area in the city, on the night of Wednesday December 3.

The policemen visited fishing ports in the district and found out details of fishermen from other states operating from here. They also had asked all the boat owners to provide information of the workers they engage for fishing activities.  The policemen had warned the boat owners that they would be held responsible if it is found that they are engaging labourers who happen to be illegal immigrants. They have found that about 60 Bengalis are engaged in fishing here. Their addresses and the telephone numbers of the police stations under which their permanent residences fall were collected by the policemen.

The policemen have constantly been pressurized to fish out illegal foreign nationals living in the district since long, because of the threat perception. All the people who were enquired by the police are learnt to have given their addresses in West Bengal. DCIB inspector H N Venkatesh Prasanna said that his department would verify the genuineness of the addresses furnished by the fishermen. If the addresses are found to be fake, further steps would be initiated, he explained.
