Udupi: University-level Athletic Meet Inaugurated at Brahmavar

Udupi, Dec 3: The Mangalore University- level Inter College Athletic Meet was inaugurated at SMS College at Brahmavar near here, on Tuesday December 2.

Speaking after inaugurating the meet, international athlete Apsara Kateel from Karkala said that aspects like self confidence, determination and inspiration drive the athletes to give best performances. The society and parents must support the talented sportsmen, she exhorted.

An opportunity must be provided to the children to hone their talents, by identifying their hidden talents. It is possible to bring out the talent even at the college- level, said MLA Ragupati Bhat, speaking on the occasion.

Fr G M Skaria, SMS College convener, presided over the function.

MLA Raghupati Bhat hoisted the sports flag on the occasion.

Olympian M Poovamma, a student of SDM Business Management College, represented other athletes at the oath-taking ceremony.

Dr H Nagalingappa, director, physical education department, Mangalore University, Balabhaskar, president, Physical Education Director's Association, Balakrishna Hegde, president, Amateur Athletic Association, Dr Praveen Kumar Shetty, president, Brahmavar Sports Club, M Chandrashekar Hegde, director, physical education department of  SMS College, were present on the occasion.

Over four hundred athletes from 45 colleges are taking part in the three-day meet.

Prof K Narayanan, principal, SMS College welcomed the gathering. T Babu, lecturer, proposed vote of thanks. Prof Susheela Rai and Narohna compered the programme.
