Mangalore, Dec 3: Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Janata Dal (Secular) staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office against the union government urging reduction of fuel price as part of a nationwide demonstration, on Tuesday December 2.

Addressing the demonstrators, B Madhava, secretary, CPI (M) DK District Committee, said that fuel price had come down to less than $50 a barrel in the international market. But the government is not ready to reduce the prices of petrol and diesel, he alleged.

“The government has been hiking fuel prices for the past several years owing to rise in the international market. Fuel price which had touched $147 a barrel in the global market, has come down less than $50 a barrel. The union government has not found any problem in reducing Rs 26 a litre for aviation turbine fuel. At the same it has been refusing to reduce prices for petrol and diesel”, accused Madhava.

He said that the UPA government was busy satisfying corporate giants at the cost of the common people of the country. K B Balaraj Rai, president, JD (S), P Sanjiva, secretary, CPI district committee, Srhiyan, and Hyder Parthipady, were present on the occasion.
