Udupi: Former District Hindu Yuvasena Leader Udaykumar Kallianpur Assaulted

Udupi, Dec 3: Some miscreants assaulted and attempted to kill Udaykumar Kallianpur, the former president of the district Hindu Yuvasena at Kallianpur, near here, on the night of Monday December 1.

He was seriously injured by brothers Ranjit Pinto, Rohit Pinto, and Sujit Pinto, all residents of Kote, as well as Chetan Santhekatte, resident of Nejar, Ramesh Poojary, resident of Kota near Kundapur, and a sixth unidentified accomplice.

The group arrived on two motorcycles with swords and iron rods as Udaykumar was returning home on his motorcycle after closing his shop at Santekatte. Motorists passing by, noticed Udaykumar lying unconscious, and carried him to the intersection of National Highway 17, where the highway patrol police took over. They took him to Hi-Tech Hospital, where he is reportedly recovering.

Malpe police arrested Chetan and Ranjit, two of the six accused, on Tuesday December 2 and recovered a motorcycle from them.  Road blockades have been set up in the neighbourhood to arrest the others. Malpe police have registered a case in this regard and the probe is on.
