John McCain Meets PM Manmohan Singh in Delhi

NEW DELHI, Dec 2: Influential US Senator John McCain, who unsuccessfully ran for Presidentship, arrived here on Tuesday on an unscheduled visit to show solidarity in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks and discussed the issue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

McCain, the Republican party leader, was on his way to Bangladesh and Bhutan but he made a stopover here in view of the Mumbai strikes, sources said.

Soon after his arrival, he met the Prime Minister during which the terror attacks and aspects related to it were discussed.

McCain was the Republican candidate for US Presidentship but he lost the electoral battle to Democrat nominee Barack Obama.

McCain's brief trip of few hours came a day ahead of the visit of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who has been asked by President George Bush to cut short her Europe tour and travel to India to discuss the situation arising out of the Mumbai attacks.

The US has demonstrated bipartisan support and solidarity with India in the wake of the strikes for which Pakistan-based terror groups have been blamed.

US President George Bush as well as President-elect Obama have emphasised repeatedly that Washington stands by India in its fight against terror.

Obama is closely monitoring the situation and is keeping in touch with Rice over the issue.

The US has asked Pakistan to extend "absolute" and "transparent" cooperation to India in the investigations and follow the "evidence wherever it leads".

If the government  can pay cricketers in crores when they win a match, why can't the govt pay the same amount when army man sacrificees his life for the nation? Shame on indian politicians . Now the NDA UPA are blaming each other. Shame on NDA who is making it an issue now while they have conveniently forgotten the  Khandahar Hijack Issue, Sansad Bhawan Issue!

Dear Clifford, do you think US was not aware of terrorist training camps in their good old partner country Pakistan? Do you think US is not aware that underworld don wanted in India and international community is presently resident of Pakistan? Don't you think US has taken some interest in Mumbai terrorist attack only because 6 US citizens were among the victims? Is it not understandable that without the blessing of US Pakistan cannot allow internationally identified/banned terrorist organizations to operate in open? Don't you know stringent terrorist act introduced by NDA was scrapped by Congress to serve their vote bank politics agenda?

Dear Clifford For the first time in 5 years of their tenure they have called a all party meeting to discuss terrorism. That too at the cost of 195 innocent lives. What is the use of this meeting. You should have Posted your comment if Govt came up with any positive outcome after that meeting. What do you think US has done except giving some usless statement. Do you think they will convince Pakisthan to hand over the criminals or co-operate in the investigation. they want both of them. Its easy to give a speech at one corner of the world . As if it would have made big diffrence if Advani attended the the meeting.
