Mangalore: Fire Guts Two Shops in Mudipu

Mangalore, Dec 1: Two shops were gutted in a fire in Mudipu, on the outskirts of the city, on the night of Sunday November 30. The loss is estimated to be around Rs 12 lac.

A stationery and electronics shop owned by Venkatesh H and Jagdish H, as well as a juice stall owned by Dayanand, were damaged in the fire. Youths busy preparing for the annual feast at the nearby Blessed Joseph Vaz hill shrine, saw the flames from the shops, alerted the owners, and joined in extinguishing the fire. 

Their timely action saved adjacent shops from damage and brought in the fire brigade to help control the fire. Lingappa Poojary, city rural circle inspector, and S F Lohar, Konaje sub-inspector, arrived at the spot.  MLA U T Khader also paid a visit to the area.

Konaje police registered a case in this regard and investigations are on to identify the cause of the fire.
