Bangalore, Nov 29: In a significant development, the Maharashtra Intelligence personnel and City Crime Branch (CCB- Bangalore) sleuths conducted a joint raid on a residential premise at a village in Virajpet, Kodagu district, on Friday, and questioned three people with alleged links with suspected terrorists of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

“Based on credible information, the police raided the premises at Heggala village near Virajpet early hours on Friday and questioned three persons identified as Haji, Khadir and Razaak,” a senior State police officer told The Hindu on condition of anonymity. He added: “They were thoroughly interrogated. They were released after questioning.”

The officials said that the three persons were questioned for their alleged links with Riyazuddin Nasir alias Mohammed Ghouse and Asadullah Abubaker, alleged LeT operatives, who have been arrested on terror charges.

“A couple of months ago, Riyazuddin Nasir, Asadullah Abubaker and Mohammad Asif were arrested on terror charges by the Honnali and Hubli police. During interrogation, they revealed vital information about their nexus with suspected terrorists in India as well as those having links with Pakistan-based terrorist outfits.

The Heggala trio Haji, Khadir and Razaak had received several calls from Riyazuddin Nasir and Asadullah Abubaker,” said the official, who was part of the police party.

“Incidentally, during narco analysis Riyazuddin Nasir and Asadullah Abubaker had referred to Deccan Mujahideen. After the recent attacks in Mumbai, Intelligence Bureau officials from Mumbai discussed the matter with the Bangalore city police. We assisted them in the questioning,” said the officer.

Confirming Friday’s development in Kodagu district, Inspector-General of Police M.K. Nagaraja, who heads the Anti-Terrorist Cell said: “The three persons were questioned as part of the investigations.” However, senior police officials in Kodagu were not aware of the developments. “I heard about the raids from presspersons,” said a senior police official from Kodagu.
