Mangalore: Monsoon Revisited - Surprise Showers Bring Relief to Residents

Mangalore, Nov 29: Residents of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts who have been glued to their TV sets in the past three days following terror siege in Mumbai, were in for surprise as the twin districts received heavy showers on Friday  November 28 evening.

Following cyclone in Bay of Bengal, both districts, lying along the coastal belt, received heavy rains. Dark clouds that encircled the district skies by 4 in evening resulted in heavy showers late in the evening. Though some parts of the state, including Bangalore had been receiving rains for the last 3 days, coastal districts were reeling under soaring temperature.

While Udupi city received light showers, rural areas were drenched in heavy showers. Elsewhere in Karkala, entire taluk received heavy rains. As drainages were overflowing with rainy water, it seemed like monsoon revisited.

But Moodbidri, which has turned into cultural hub following the inauguration of three-day Alva's Nudisiri, bore the brunt of sudden showers. Though programmes going on in Vyasaraya Ballal auditorium went on without any hiccups, programmes scheduled to be held in K V Subbaba Bayalau Ranga Mandira and Ku Shi Haridas Bhat stage were interrupted.

Mangalore too received rains after 6 pm on Friday. Though it was not heavy raining, it did bring down soaring mercury. It rained cats and dogs in parts of Bantwal, especially around Farangipet, right from the afternoon.
