Mangalore, Nov 28:
Poetry can be found in nursery rhymes and folklore singing.  Language has indeed developed from hearing variety singing, opined Dr Vasant Kumar Perla, at the inaugural of a one-day workshop on Kannada Rajyotsav traditional poetry held recently at Pilikula open air theater. It was organized under the aegis of Dakshina Kannada district Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Pilikula Nisargadama heritage village, and Kalkura Foundation, for the new generation of poets.

Dr Vaman Nandavar, project officer, Pilikula Nisargadama heritage village, in his keynote address said that these kinds of workshops are targeted at the new generation of poets to enable a keen interest in composing poetry on the occasion of Kannada getting classical status from the union government.

N P Shetty in his presidential address, said that Pilikula Nisargadama is inspiring poets to explore their talents in pristine surroundings. Poetry should not be like stagnant water; instead it has to flow freely, he emphasized.

Poet Mohammed Baddoor said that poetry enriches innovations. Coastal students of the teachers’ training institute and youth poets attended the workshop. Chidambara Baikampady in his valedictory address said that the open air theatre should be made available for variety cultural programmes of the coastal district.

Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president, Dakshina Kannada district Kannada Sahitya Parishat, said that these kinds of workshops inspire promising poets to develop their own poems. Shashiraj Kavoor said that a library at Nisargadama was indeed a necessity.
