NEW DELHI, Nov 27: Former prime minister V P Singh, who formed the first non-Congress coalition government at the Centre dethroning Rajiv Gandhi-led  Congress in the 1989 elections, died here on Thursday after a prolonged illness.

Battling blood cancer since 1991 and suffering from renal failure, 77-year-old Singh, also known as 'Raja of Manda', breathed his last at the Apollo Hospital here in the afternoon, his close associate Wasim Ahmad said.

It was with a great sense of loss when I heard of V P Singh death. VP Singh was more than just a wonderful person he was always so kind and considerate to us (MANDAL RAJA,and a clean Politician.) And, we know that his passing will not only leave a void in our lives, but in the hearts of all those who knew him. VP Singh will always remain within our hearts.
