Mangalore: Subramanya SI Sharat Kumar Gets Anticipatory Bail in Timber Case

Mangalore, Nov 27: The district sessions court awarded anticipatory bail to Subrahmanya sub-inspector Sharat Kumar who was accused of illegally transporting teakwood logs.

Panja range forest officer filed a criminal case in the court, against Sharat Kumar on Friday November 7, alleging that he had transported the logs in his police jeep to a furniture shop located in Mutlajeadka, on the limits of Yenekal gram panchayat.  The forest officer recovered 16 logs of teakwood from the furniture shop.

Protests were held for and against the sub-inspector in Subrahmanya, while superintendent of police, Satheeshkumar, suggested his transfer. Meanwhile, Sharat Kumar went on voluntary leave. He applied for anticipatory bail in the district sessions court, alleging that a false case had been filed against him.  He alleged that forest officers are in connivance with the timber mafia and he has been made a scapegoat. 

The district sessions court awarded anticipatory bail to his jeep driver also.  Lawyer P P Hegde appeared for Sharat Kumar.
