Udupi: ‘Yakshagana Saptaha’ on at Sri Krishna Math Rajangan

The ‘Chittani 75 Yaksha Sambrama Yakshagana Saptaha’, was inaugurated at the Sri Krishna Math Rajangan, on Monday November 24. It has been organized by Paryaya Math.
 
Sri Vishweshateerta Swami of Pejavar Math, in his inaugural address, said that Yakshagana educates people on various facets of art, religion, ideology, mythology, and history. A conducive environment should be provided for Yakshagana to flourish, as it promotes language, culture, and art. 



Yakshagana artiste Chittani Ramachandra Hegde has been involved with popularizing the art among the masses, said the Swamiji. Sri Sugunendrateerta Swami of Paryaya Puttige Math, released a CD of ‘Iravata Yakshagana’, in which Hegde has performed. Municipal councilor Dinakar Shetty, presided over the programme.
 
Dr Vijay Ballal, trustee, Ambalapady Sri Janardhan Mahakali temple, Kumble Sundar Rao, president, Yakshagana Academy, ENT surgeon Dr Krishnaprasad, Gopikrishna Rao, and P V Rao, were present on the dais. Felicitation committee president Tallur Shivaram Shetty welcomed the gathering. Narayan M Hegde compered the programme.
 
Yaksha Saptaha will conclude on Sunday November 30 and there will be Yakshagana performances daily till then.
