Udupi, Nov 26:
The district unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) or the CPI (M), took out a protest rally from KSRTC bus stand to the branch office of Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM),  on Tuesday November 25, against the irregular supply of electricity and unlimited load shedding.

The protesters presented a memorandum to MESCOM branch manager Jayasurya, alleging that the electricity supply across the state was pathetic. They alleged that despite the state seeing a moderate monsoon this year, and the dams overflowing by October, the state-owned public utility supplier has resorted to unlimited power cuts.

It wreaks havoc on the common man, small and medium entrepreneurs, and agriculturists, they said. Activists also accused MESCOM of being partial to major industries with regard to supplying uninterrupted power.

The district CPI (M) urged the state government not to depend on private enterprises to generate electricity and to instead complete various projects that are underway across the state, at the earliest, so as to resolve the situation.  Meanwhile, efforts should be made to procure the required electricity from the central power grid and reduce transmission losses and rising electricity theft cases, they urged.

CPI (M) district secretary Vishwanath Rai, Ramesh Mendon, Adamar Sripati Acharya, Vadiraj Kudia, and Sanjeev Naika, were among those present on the occasion.
