Moodbidri: Abhaya Simha’s ‘Gubbacchigalu’ Adjudged Best Mini Kannada Film

The valedictory ceremony of the 5th Karnataka Mini Kannada Film Festival was held on Sunday November 23. The event was organized by Yuva Pratiba Vedike and Shree College.
 
Shekar Ajekar, journalist and founder of Shree College, presided over the programme.  Speaking on the occasion, he said that the film festival had been organized with the new generation in mind, as mini films convey messages that lead to introspection and have the ability to transform society. 
 


This is the fifth consecutive year the festival has been held by the two organizations. A total of 15 mini films were screened during the three-day mini festival which began on Friday November 21.
 
The award for the best mini film was bagged by Abhaya Simha of Mangalore, for the film ‘Gubbacchigalu’. It was received by his wife Rashmi Abhaya Simha. The second place went to Prakash Suvarna Katpady for ‘Puttadamane’.
 
The award for rising star-director was bagged by Prakash Kabettu for his movies ‘Ninada’, ‘Vanadevi Vara’, and ‘Wanted’. The award for rising star-producer was bagged by Francis D’Sa, Shankarapura for ‘Akku’, ‘Guddadamane’, and ‘Hallimane’. 
 
Francis and Prakash Kabettu spoke on behalf of the award winners. Ashwin Pereira, president, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Moodbidri–Mulky region, Sukumar Mudrady, C G K stage award winner, Sanoor Ganesh Nayak, film producer, ‘Ninada’, Sumant Bhat, film director, and Akshay Jain, vice-president, student union of Mahaveer College, were the chief guests of the occasion.
 
Dhananjaya Gurpur, director, Yuva Pratiba Vedike, and Prasanna Shetty, educational department CRP, were also honoured. Harish Adoor welcomed the gathering while student Harini proposed the vote of thanks. College alumnus Deepika compered the programme.
