Bangalore: Congress High Command Summons Siddu Again

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Nov 20: Ex-deputy chief minister Siddaramaiah, who nursed the ambitions of heading the state unit of the Congress party and has remained aloof from the organizational activities out of frustration over the shabby treatment meted out to him by the party high command, has again been asked by the high command to come to Delhi.

Political secretary to Contress party national president Sonia Gandhi has requested Siddaramaiah to come to New Delhi for having discussions with the party president. It appears, that the party leadership was taken aback by the sudden turn of events, after it found that Siddaramaiah had shared the dais with the state chief minister B S Yeddyurappa during the Kanaka Jayanti celebrations in Bangalore on Saturday last.

It has been gathered, that Patel requested Siddu not to grow frustrated over not being given the state presidentship of the party. Patel also impressed on the powerful leader of the backward classes, to accept the post of either the presidentship of the national backward classes wing of the paty or the permanent invitee to the Congress executive, sources revealed. It is however learnt, that Siddu remained non-committal on this offer and showed his disinterestedness.

He also reportedly told Patel that he would come to New Delhi after the elections in six states that are to be held soon  conclude, as leaders are busy working for the success of the party.

Some of the Congress leaders are interested in striking an understanding with the JD(S) for the ensuing bypoll as well as the Loksabha elections, but Siddaramaiah has been vehemently opposing the move. As a result,  he has become a virtual hot potato for the party leadership to handle. Every effort is being made to make Siddu toe the line of thinking of the state leaders and agree for the proposed alliance. In the backdrop of these developments, the invitation now accorded by Ahmed Patel has evinced lot of interested in the political circles of the state.

Siddaramaiah seems to have grown disillusioned with the way he is handled by the party high command. Many expect him to take a hard decision on his future and bid adieu to the Congress for good. Sources expect, that he will meet Sonia after the above elctions and inform her of his decision.
