Mangalore: JIH Caravan to Culminate in City On Nov 23

Mangalore, Nov 20: The ‘Caravan for Peace and Justice’, launched in Belgaum earlier this month, by the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Karnataka and Goa unit, will culminate at the Town Hall here in a public meeting on Sunday November 23.
 
Addressing media persons at the press club, Muhammad Kunhi, convener, Youth Wing, JIH, said that the country’s technological progress and multi-cultural diversity was overshadowed by caste conflicts, communal hatred, and regional chauvinism. The widening gulf between the rich and poor, suicide by farmers, and deaths due to starvation, were on the rise. The country was also confronting serious problems from separatist, militant, and terrorist outfits, which are killing innocent people, he said.
 
Kunhi said of the three caravans taken out from Bidar, Bijapur, and Belgaum, two will culminate in Bangalore in a public meeting on Saturday November 22. The caravan from Belgaum will cover Hubli, Goa, Bhatkal, Udupi, Chikamagalur, Sakleshpur, Mysore, Chamarajnagar, Kodagu, and Mangalore. He added, ‘The objective of the caravan is to create awareness about rising social evils such as terrorism, discrimination on basis of religion and caste, atrocities on weaker sections, minorities, and women, and regional and linguistic chauvinism’.
 
Meanwhile, a nationwide caravan headed by Moulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari, all-India president, JIH, and vice-president Muhammad Jafar will culminate at Cochin on Wednesday November 25.

Highlighting the event, Kunhi said the district welcome committee which includes leaders from various communities will receive the caravan in a reception ceremony at BC Road. A vehicle rally also being organized from BC Road to Town Hall.

Moulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari will preside over the public meeting. Dr Chandrashekar Shivayogi Rajendra Swamiji, Hubli, Justice M F Saldanha, Prof P L Dharma, Jamaat-e-Islami state president Abdullah Javed, S I O president Bishruddin Sharki, Y Muhammad Kunhi, and Muhammad Kunhi will address the meeting.
