Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Nov 18: Gopalakrishna, suspended assistant sub-inspector of police attached to Adoor police station, who is facing charges of helping the main accused Hamza to escape unharmed in the Safiya murder case in return for bribe, surrendered in the first class court of Kasargod on Monday November 17.  Gopalakrishna has been named as the fifth accused in the said case.

The court granted bail to him and asked him to appear in the court during the next hearing of the case.  Allegedly, Gopalakrishna tried to scuttle the case by twisting records to show that Safiya had escaped after reaching Kasargod and also that Safiya's mother suffers from mental derangement.  He is accused of meddling with records to the advantage of the main accused K C Hamza from Mastikundu.

While the other accused were arrested, the suspended ASI had absconded. The police were on the lookout for him. Out of the five accused, the court has denied bail to only the main accused K C Hamza.
