Hubli, Nov 17: Speaking after inaugurating a mega convention of the district weavers by weaving in a handloom, state chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said that the government aims at making the state prosperous and vibrant. "Because of lack of honest people and political will, those in power in the past failed to achieve this aim. We will ensure that the state's progress is not hindered by these elements," he declared.

The mega convention of the district weavers was held at the Basaveshwara Engineering College grounds in Vidyagiri here, under the joint aegis of the District Devanga Association, Hatagar Samaj and Karnataka State Devanga Employees' Association on Sunday November 16. The government has already taken up several schemes for the welfare of the weavers and in the next five years, an amount of Rs 500 crore will be spent and over five lac weavers will be provided with gainful employment, he announced.

Agreeing that the state is facing power crisis because of the short-sightedness of previous government, he said that the government is aiming at increasing power output by 5,000 mega watts in the next five years.

Various dignitaries were present. Hampi Hemakoota Gayatri Peeta Swamiji Sri Dayanandapuri and several religious heads were present.
