Udupi: Kanakadasa Jayanti Celebrated

Udupi, Nov 15: The Kanakadasa birth anniversary celebrations were held at the Rajangana of the Krishna Math here on Saturday November 15, under the aegis of the district administration, Parayaya Puttige Math and  Kanakadasa Studies and Research Centre.

The function was inaugurated by the  district-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya. In his inaugural address, he called upon the scholars of the  folk and Haridasa literatures  to come together and conduct deep study about the life and preachings of Kanakadasa. He also assured, that the state government is prepared to santion additional grants if necessary, towards the said work, if the amount of a crore of rupees already earmarked for the purpose,  is found to be inadequate. He opined, that learning about and emulating the principles for which the great personalities stood, results in the overall welfare of the present generation. He also advised the concerned, to not only study about Kanakadasa but also spread his principles, literature and preaching all over the state.



Puttige Math swamiji Sugunendrateerta  delivered benedictory speech. Swamiji Raghumanyateerta of Bheemanakatte Math was present.

The programme was presided by local MLA Raghupati Bhat.  District deputy commissioner Hemalata, taluk panchayat president Geetha J Prabhu, town municipal president Dinkar Shetty, Udupi Urban Development Authority chairman Sudhakar Shetty, zilla panchayat chief executive officer Prasanna Kumar, Kaup Kurubara Sangh president Sadanand etc., were present.

On this occasion, 'Kanakopanishat,' a work on Kanakadasa written by Bananje Govindacharya, was released by Dr V S Acharya.

Mangalore University Kannada reader Dr B Shivaram Shetty delivered a special lecture on Kanakadasa.

Earlier, in tune with the impetus laid by Kanakadasa on devotion, Bhajan teams came in a procession through the car street here, chanting Bhajans.

Various competitions were held for the students on the occasion.

Local regional transport officer M P Omkareshwari welcomed the guests and the gathering. Director of Kanakadasa Studies and Research Centre H Krishna Bhat delivered introductory address. Suma and Gopalacharya presented the programme.
