Bangalore: Deshpande Defends Action Against Margaret

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Nov 14: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president R V Deshpande strongly supported the action of the Congress high command in relieving  Margaret Alva  of the important portfolios she held in the party,  in a press conference held on Wednesday November 12.

Addressing the press, Deshpande asserted that the party can not tolerate indiscipline and also  the beating the image of the party receives because of the actions or utterances of its  people, either workers or leaders.  When some guessed that Alva did not have documentary proof about what happened, he said that the leader should then have kept quiet. Making unnecessary statements is her undoing, he opined.

If at all any murky deals had taken place, why did Alva and MP Jalappa kept quiet for more than six months?, he questioned. He also observed that these leaders chose  not to attend the KPCC introspection meet held recently at Yelahanka and did not present themselves at  the  hearing of the disciplinary committee  headed by  defence minister A K Antony. Deshpande also said, that close relatives of political leaders are eligible to be given tickets,if they have worked well for the party, are popular and have the support of the party workers.

Deshpande however, chose to remain mum, when  questioned about parleys being held between  the KPCC  working president D K Shivkumar and Siddaraiah, who os miffed at being sidelined by the party high command.
