Udupi, Nov 13: In an operation launched on Wednesday November 12 morning, a police team led by Padubidri police station-in-charge Mohan Kottary arrested a person, who had defrauded several people to the tune of around Rs 10 lac, by promising them to secure visas of various countries.
The arrested person has been identified as Nateshan, son of the late Vasudevan, a resident of Kollam Wynad, Kerala. A Maruti-800 car, two motor bikes, a goods tempo, equipments and implements found in a garage put up by him and other documents like the bio-data and other particulars the deceived people had furnished to him were confiscated by the policemen. The total value of assets taken over by the policemen has been estimated at around Rs 7, 95,800.
Nateshan used to function under various names like Nateshan, Abraham Nateshan, Nateshan Poojary etc., He earlier worked in Ircon, Suzlon and then Nagarjuna Company in the capacity of mechanic. While working in Nagarjuna, he promised various youth who came in contact with him that he would secure them visas of some countries to enable them to secure jobs there. He had asked the gullible youth to deposit Rs 25,000 each to his account with Corporation Bank for the purpose. He had told them that he had good contacts with a German company and that they can get very good pay there. From some others, he collected an additional sum of Rs 3,700 each, allegedly for making passports. He used to draw money from his account by using his ATM card.
On July 31 this year, Anil Kumar K, one of the defrauded men from Moodabettu in Udupi Santhekatte, filed a complaint with the Padubidri police about the way he was defrauded and the modus operandi of the fraudster. The police had been on the look out for Nateshan but he succeeded in evading arrest. The policemen talked to him over mobile phone on Wednesday morning and collected information about his whereabouts. Later, they arrested him from Naravi near Beltangady, where he had opened a garage.
He had left his job at Nagarjuna. When contacted, he was in a car in Hosmar in Karkala taluk. The policemen asked Anil Kumar to get into the car, and as soon as he did so, intercepted the car and raided the fraudster's garage.
