Kundapur, Nov 11: It is learnt, the policemen from Shimoga district, who arrested a naxal, succeeded in recovering a huge cache of arms and ammunition, on the basis of the information extracted from him.

Reportedly, the policemen took into custody a man named Jagannath on Sunday November 9. As he claimed himself to be a native of a village near Shikaripur, they took him there. His proper identity is yet to be established. Sources said that he was taken to Odeyaramath, a village near Koppa in Chikmagalur district, apart from Balehonnur. The policemen dug up a plastic barrel from the spot pointed out by him, in which detonators, stein gun rounds, country-made pistol, naxal hand bills, naxal literature, CDs, tablets and clothes were stored, sources revealed.

Jagannath said he is an M Phil degree holder and was present in the house of Ramegouda from Odeyarmath when police raided that house on July 10, 2007 and killed a few people in an encounter. He was said to be active in leftist movements of Shimoga district before joining the naxals in the Western Ghats. However, for reasons unknown, he suddenly came out of the naxal contact and got engaged in various activities.

The policemen came to know about his return and took him into custody. The policemen from Chikmagalur noticed him when he took part in a public meeting there during the last week. However, it is gathered that higher officials in the department had decided against arresting him without having sufficient information.

The policemen from both Shimoga and Chikmagalur districts however, are refusing to divulge any information on the said operations.
