Kundapur, Nov 11: In an accident that occurred in the morning on Monday November 10, a truck driver, who was replacing a rear tyre of his truck that had punctured, was killed after another truck hit him.

The deceased has been identified as the owner-cum-driver of the truck, Rony D'Souza from Kandlur near here. The truck, loaded with fresh fish from Goa, was bound for Mangalore and the driver was engaged in changing one of the rear tyres of truck after it burst near here. The truck had been moved from the road to the sideway for the purpose.

A truck owned by Khalid from Gulwadi, and driven by Riaz from Kirimanjeshwar, going to Gangolly at great speed, hit the truck after the driver lost control over the vehicle while overtaking another truck. Eyewitnesses said that the truck hit the stranded truck and then hit Rony. Cleaner of the truck named Bharat from Saukoor was operating the jack on the right side of the truck and hence, had a miraculous escape.

A case has been registered at Gangolly police station.
