Bangalore: CM Moots Health Insurance Scheme for Poor People

Bangalore, Nov 11: State chief minister B S Yeddyurappa informed on Sunday November 9, that the government is seriously considering a proposal to introduce a health insurance scheme for the benefit of the  poor citizens of the state, that aims at shielding them and their families from  from the heavy  financial blows of  having to cope with serious ailments.

"The government is committed to the welfare of the less fortunate. We are drawing up a plan to protect them from the health problems that have the potential of devastating their families. The government has already introduced 'Bhagyalaxmi' scheme aimed at stopping the female  infanticide and foeticide. We want to introduce the insurance scheme to provide cover to the poor families to an extent, against the ill affects of ailments like cardiac arrest, cancer as well as fatal  accidents," he explained, addressing a meeting at Malur near here.

Saying that arrangements have been made to distribute BPL ration cards to eligible poor people before the end of this month, he added that those who do not get their ration cards by then can approach the taluk officials with documents and obtain their ration cards on the spot.
