Kundapur, Nov 10: Teams of the Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) and the policemen have intensified their combing operations in various villages located at the foot of the Western Ghats in the taluk, after they received information that naxals were sighted at Yedamoge and Hosangady villages coming under Hallihole gram panchayat in the taluk. While the ANF claims that it has cordoned-off several areas, naxals continue to make mysterious appearances, delivering terrible blows to the image of the ANF.

Elsewhere in the state, it is learnt that the naxals, during their meeting with the villagers held near Shringeri recently, warned farmers against deserting their villages. It is learnt that several farmers, who have been staying in forest lands are considering to opt for rehabilitation scheme  as announced by the government, because of losses suffered in agricultural activities due to various reasons including crop diseases, naxal and police harassment etc.,

The naxals are learnt to have warned the villagers, that they will face unemployment and other problems if they leave their lands. One of the villagers named Raghavendra, who attended the meeting said, that the naxals threatened to teach a lesson to those who decide to leave their abodes in the forests, in tune with the request of the government.  Another agriculturist Dayanand said that the naxals sought full support of the villagers for their struggle and did not threaten the villagers. They however, suggested to them that they should get their problems solved through agitations and struggles, he said.

Chief whip in the state assembly D N Jeevaraj expressed his resentment at the new demands being placed by the naxals, who had in the past, asked for the development of the hamlets located deep within the forests. He said, that the state BJP government is prepared for a dialogue with the naxals and warned that it will take firm steps if the naxals do not show any inclination for finding solution to problems through talks.
