Bangalore: BDA Member Engineer held While Receiving Rs 20 Lac Bribe

Bangalore, Nov 7: Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) member engineer D Shivshankar, who accepted a bribe of Rs 20 lac at his home in Dollar Colony in the city on Thursday November 6 as well as the East Coast Construction and Industries Limited director S A Mohammed Mohiddin, general manager of the company Illyas Latif and manager Basappa were nabbed by the Lokayukta police on Thursday.

The said company is conducting public works to the tune of Rs 32 crore near the Vijayanagar toll gate in the city and also the underpass near Kamakshipalya. Lokayukta police said that Shivshankar demanded a bribe of Rs 20 lac from the company to pave way for easy passage of their bills.

Shivshankar went back to his home after taking part in the BDA board meeting on Thursday. He had summoned the company officials at his home to receive the bribe. The Lokayukta police during the raid also recovered the bribe amount. They also raided the home of Shivshankar and recovered Rs 1.6 lac in cash. The Lokayukta police simultaneously raided the engineer's home in Gangotri Extension Mysore and as there was no one at home there, they sealed almirah and other records. They said, they would verify the contents there shortly.

The company officials during questioning are learnt to have said, they had come to give 'Diwali gift' to the engineer.
