Mangalore, Nov 6: Speaking after presiding over the ‘National Tenkana Yakshotsava' organized at the Town Hall here on Wednesday November 5, Karnataka Bank chairman Anantakrishna opined that awards should come seeking a person late in his life.

"Awards work as tonic. When the achievers are young, they are fuelled by indomitable enthusiasm. A little encouragement keeps them going. Senior achievers however, feel tired. They need awards to egg them on achieve further," he analyzed.  He also thought that people should never cry over their poverty. In fact, many of the achievers faced poverty when young and it encouraged them to come up in life, he said.

Rajyotsava awardees and veteran Yakshagana artistes Ambatanaya Mudradi, Soorikueru K Govind Bhat and Patala Venkatramana Bhat as well as Raghunath Rai who has authored the Hindi ‘Ma Mahisha Mardini' Yakshagana episode, were honoured on the occasion.

Mudradi, in reply to the felicitation, said that art has the capacity to fusion minds, overcoming obstacles like country, language and religion. For artistes, affection of the audience and a sense of fulfilment keep them going. They do not seek awards, he explained.

Yakshagana critic Prabhakar Joshi said, that all art forms have to adapt to changes as times keep changing.

Karnataka Yakshagana Academy president Kumble Sundar Rao and DK District Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradip Kumar Kalkura were present.

Yaksha Manjusha director Vidya Kolyur explained about the National Tenkana Yakshotsava tour and said that shows presented at Jammu and Kashmir military camp, Bengali pandals etc. gave the entire team a sense of fulfillment as the audience response was excellent. After a small documentary on the tour was screened, Hindi Yakshagana episode, 'Maa Mahisha Mardini' was performed.
