Bhubaneshwar, Oct 31:
Orissa government on Friday suspended five policemen in the nun rape episode in Kandhamal district after a joint report was filed by the district collector and superintendent of police.

"Five policemen have been placed under suspension for misconduct and negligence of duty in connection with the nun episode," home secretary T K Mishra told reporters.

The action was taken on the basis of a joint report filed by Kandhamal collector Krishna Kumar and Superintendent of Police Prabin Kumar.

Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik had on Wednesday sought a report on policemen deployed at K Nuagaon in the district where the nun was allegedly raped during the Orissa bandh on August 25.

The policemen suspended with immediate effect were an assistant sub-inspector Rasananda Mallick, havildar major K N Mohapatra and havildars S K Hamim, J S Khan and B K Mohanty, official sources said.

With the action taken against these five, a total of six policemen having been suspended so far in the incident.

Earlier, Baliguda police station officer in-charge K N Rao was suspended for failing to take steps after the nun lodged an FIR on August 26.

The move was aimed at restoring the confidence of the people, particularly in riot-ravaged Kandhamal district, the sources said.

I too feel like Srishant Shet that suspension is too little a punishment, because there is indirect involvement. If the police was not present there then there is a negligence of their duty, and they need to be suspended, but when the crime is carried out in their presence is a serious thing. The police was present and in front of them the nun was paraded naked.

This indicates that they are supporting it, or have 'hand in the glows' with the miscreants. Third point it has brought a bad name to the police department. People have lost faith in the police. Internationally this has brought a bad name to our country.

Suspension is not the solution. This issue is really very sensitive and its shame on our system. Many people have come to know about the recent issue at Orissa which has published in all major newspapers and websites in other parts of the world too. Its really very bad news to our Indian system. People should see that these type of issues should not happen in future.

We should respect all without their caste, community, creed, colour. We came to this earth with bare hand and we will go forever from this earth with bare hand too. Then, why people are involving in these types of uncultured and dirty activities? I dont know what to say. But, its very disappointing news to India. What will be our reputation in international levels? Just feel the situation when someone asks about these things when you are meeting peole from other nation.

There is a ray of hope that the unfortunate innocent nun will get justice. Thanks CM, Patnaik for your sense of justice, hope now you will take more stern actions against the culprits when more things are revealed to you, as the local Govt. Machinery has hidden many things from you. Yes CM you need to be sensitive as you will respect the sentiments of the nun and hand over the case to CBI, or will transfer the case to a different court outside Orissa for a fair deal. Why the justice is delayed for so long?

The suspension of the six Policemen may just be an eyewash. Who knows when they will be restored with full honours. Justice may only be expected as outcome of a full CBI enquiry as the Nun has demanded, and she has ecery right to do so.
