Bangalore, Oct 31: The state high court on Thursday October 30, asked the deputy commissioners of the districts to submit reports on their proposals to evict encroachments on roads and widen them.

High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and Justice V G Sabhahit asked the state chief secretary to call for these reports from the deputy commissioners in respect of all the roads, highways, taluk, municipal and panchayat roads. They directed the reports to be submitted to the High Court by November 7.

While hearing a petition by Kranti Kannada Kannada daily associate editor Kranti Kumar, against the demolition of structures standing on Gulbarga city roads, the court said it was necessary to demolish encroachments for widening of the roads.

The petitioner argued that the Gulbarga City Corporation had taken up the demolition drive without following procedures or awarding compensations. He contended that this action is violative of various acts.  The eviction notices served by the City Corporation were arbitrary, he had contended.
